Our Mission
Our History
Our Programs
This Branch was formed to increase public awareness of dyslexia in the State of Virginia. We serve the entire state, with the exception of Northern Virginia, which is part of the DC-Capital Branch in Washington, DC. We have been serving individuals with dyslexia, their families, and professionals in the field in this community for over 20 years. Tutoring, testing, and other referral information can be obtained by emailing VBIDA.
Many of our members are actively involved in the diagnosis and remediation of dyslexia. Our members are educators, psychologists, physicians, individuals with dyslexia, and parents who have dealt with learning disability issues with the local school systems and the State Department of Education.
Over the past few of years, we have developed a network of local school officials, parents, attorneys, and other professionals who are accustomed to helping parents navigate the channels of the system.
One of IDA's most important objectives is to raise awareness of dyslexia in order to increase early intervention. We also encourage teachers to train in multisensory language instruction.
